In 2014, as UCSC’s Cowell College approached its 50th Anniversary, members of the community celebrated the legacy of Mary Holmes and her impact as a prolific artist and one of the only women among the college’s founding faculty. The festival included a series of events anchored by an exhibition titled Mary Holmes: Artist and Teacher which was curated by Joan Blackmer at Cowell College’s Eloise Pickard Smith Gallery. The event series included a poetry reading, a concert, a panel discussion, tours of the studio and chapel in Happy Valley, and conversations with Holmes’s family, closest friends, and colleagues.
